Curated by Ioannis Archontakis, Peggy Kounenaki and Sofia Mavroudis.
For the summer and fall of 2010, the non-profit cultural organization “Olive press” is organizing the presentation of the contemporary art group exhibition “Art and Technology - Man & Machine” at the “Olive press - Art factory” outside Chania in Crete, Greece, which will include paintings, sculptures, engravings, ceramics, photography, video and installations, as a co-operation with the Municipal of Kolymvari, the Municipal of Voukolies, the Municipal of Kandanos and the prefecture of Chania.
A bilingual (Greek-English) catalogue will be published, with a complete presentation of all the participating artists, which reaches the number 126. Among others, Greek and international ground breaking artists as Takis, Chrisa, Konstantinos Ksenakis, Steve Gianakos and Andy Warhol, together with more contemporary Greek and international artists as Dimitris Antonitsis, Lena Bergendahl, Andonis Choudalakis, Nicholas Moore, Patrick Wagner and Natassa Poulantza.
The aim of the exhibition “Art and Technology - Man & Machine” is to investigate the interactive relationship between art and the machine within their different levels of their coexistence, along with all the apparent or smouldering interplay, through time. Having the main focus on the human, the essential creator and final recipient of both technological and artistic products, the aim of this exhibition is to explore the role of the machine and its production, to view the machine as a field of reference, as a primary and structural medium of expression of the principals, the aims and the message of art. At the same time we seek to illustrate the character of art as a factor that shapes the structure, the form and the image of the machine.
The opening will take place at August 8, at the ”Olive press - Art Factory” from 8:00 PM. The exhibition will be open for the public from 8.8.2010 to 3.10.2010, but pedagogical programs for children will take place until 12.11.2010. During the exhibition different seminaries, art workshops, musical evenings, film screenings, performances of dance and theater, performances, happenings and parties will be organized, all with free entrance.
